Summer is in full swing, which means you're probably packing for summer camp! This time of year is always exciting, but packing for your little one’s time away—whether they’re sleepaway camp veterans or venturing out for the first time—can be incredibly stressful, and you don’t want to forget a thing! While packing lists can be long and overwhelming, here are five things that you absolutely cannot forget:
Remembering to pack underwear might seem silly or self-explanatory, but it’s actually something that is so obvious that it sometimes gets forgotten! And even if you remember to pack underwear, packing extra and enough is often overlooked. Let’s be honest, laundry is never a priority at summer camp (and for your kids it might even be avoided at all costs!) and you don’t want to have to worry about your child re-wearing underwear or even going without.
2. Sunscreen and Bug Spray
You probably remembered to pack sunscreen, but did you pack enough? In our experience, there’s never too much sunscreen and bug spray to be packed! At summer camp, your child spends most of their time getting acquainted with the great outdoors. This means they’re often exposed to harsh UV rays and every outdoor critter known to man. Skip the painful sunburns and itchy bug bites and make sure to pack extra sunscreen for your campers. Chances are the camp counselors with thank you, and your child will use it.
3. Stationary and Stamps
It might seem a little old fashioned, but getting and sending mail is always a lot of fun. (Plus a lot of camps don’t allow cell phones, and if they do they don’t often get great service.) Sending your child off with some good old fashioned paper, pens and stamps is a great way to stay in contact and help them ease into being away from home. And it gives your campers a special way to tell their family all about the fun they’re having while they're away.
4. Reusable Water Bottle
At summer camp your child is going to be spending most of their days running, jumping and playing outside. With all this time outdoors, it’s even more important that your child remembers to keep hydrated. A water bottle is a great way for your camper to remember to drink water, and a reusable bottle is even better to help the environment.
5. Laundry-Free Linens®
No camp packing list would be complete without mentioning Beantown Bedding’s Laundry-Free Linens®. These disposable sheets for camp are easy and eco-friendly. One of the biggest worries you'll likely have when sending your child off to summer camp is what kind of bedding to pack. You don’t want to send the Egyptian cotton sheets (they'll just get wrecked!) and sleeping bags can be bulky and dirty (who knows the last time one of those was washed...) Since camp bedding can be a breeding ground for all kinds of germs and bacteria, Beantown Bedding is the perfect solution to this age-old camp question. Don’t worry about having to do laundry when your camper returns, and rest assured that your child is having a clean night’s sleep by sending them to camp with Beantown Bedding’s eco-friendly disposable sheets. And when your little one is ready to return home? Don't wash, just toss! These 100% compostable bed sheets return fully to nature in as little as two weeks.
